Role Summary American Century Investments (“ACI”) is seeking a Corporate Payroll Accountant to join the Corporate Accounting team. This role will be responsible for in-depth multi-state and global payroll processing, tax compliance and payroll system expertise. This role reports to the Payroll & AP Manager and works closely with other departments. This hybrid position will be based out of our Kansas City, MO office. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship. Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S. without visa sponsorship, now or in the future.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Human Resources, or related field required.
  • Experience working in similar role or the ability to demonstrate success with role and responsibilities.
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Office.
  • Effective communication skills to interact with employees at all levels of the organization and others outside of the organization.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
  • Attention to accuracy and detail.
  • Strong initiative to seek knowledge, understand, problem solve, and innovate.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with ADP Workforce Now and/or Workday preferred.
  • Power BI, Excel Data Model/Power Query proficiency preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Accurate and timely processing of semi-monthly payroll for all domestic and monthly payroll for global employees, including regular paychecks, bonuses and other special payments.
  • Ensure tax compliance with federal, multi-state and local tax laws and regulations, including handling withholding and reporting.
  • Proficient in using payroll systems such as ADP, Workday or similar and understanding their functionalities.
  • Analyze payroll data for accuracy and identifying potential issues.
  • Prepare payroll general ledger entries.
  • Assist with company stock administration.
  • Identify areas for process improvement and contributing to the development of new procedures and technologies.
  • Respond to employee inquiries regarding payroll issues.
  • Lead system upgrades and enhancements; trouble shoot issues for resolutions.
  • Build advanced system reports (ADP/Workday/Excel).
  • Assist with annual financial statement audit and related audit requests.
