About The Position

Tempo is seeking a Corporate IT Automation Engineer to be the technical driver of a modern, automation-first Corporate IT function. This role focuses on scaling the IT operating model through orchestration, self-service, and AI, replacing repetitive manual IT tasks with automated workflows and AI agents. It's a hands-on engineering role where you will build integrations, scripts, orchestration workflows, and AI agents across identity, endpoint, SaaS, and IT service management systems. You will also mentor existing system administrators to foster a team-wide automation discipline.

Requirements

  • 5+ years in IT engineering, systems administration, DevOps, or IT automation, with a track record of eliminating manual work through automation.
  • Strong scripting and programming skills (Python and/or Bash).
  • Fluency working with REST APIs, webhooks, and JSON.
  • Hands-on experience with an ITSM platform, specifically Jira Service Management, including workflow and automation configuration.
  • Experience administering or integrating core SaaS IT systems: Google Workspace and Cloud Identity for identity and access (Okta is a hard requirement).
  • Experience with endpoint/MDM tooling.
  • Demonstrated experience building with AI (LLM APIs, prompt engineering, agentic or RAG-based applications).
  • Hands-on experience with Google Cloud Vertex AI for building, deploying, and operating AI/agent workloads.
  • Experience with workflow orchestration / iPaaS tooling (n8n, Zapier, Tines, or equivalent).
  • Ability to mentor peers and communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a high-growth SaaS or technology company.
  • Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code and CI/CD concepts applied to IT automation.
  • Exposure to data tooling (SQL and a data warehouse such as BigQuery) for reporting and agent context.
  • Relevant certifications (Google Cloud, Google Workspace, Okta, JSM).
  • Experience standing up or contributing to an Automation Center of Excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Build a majority-automated IT function by identifying and automating high-volume, repetitive IT processes such as ticket triage, access requests, onboarding/offboarding, software license assignment, password resets, and device lifecycle tasks.
  • Design and implement workflow automation within the IT service management platform (Jira Service Management), including request types, approval flows, SLAs, queues, and automation rules.
  • Build integrations between systems (ITSM, IdP, HRIS, endpoint management, SaaS apps) using APIs, webhooks, and iPaaS/orchestration tooling.
  • Develop and maintain self-service capabilities for employees to resolve common requests independently.
  • Define and track automation KPIs (e.g., percentage of tickets auto-resolved, mean time to resolution, manual-touch reduction, deflection rate) and report progress to IT leadership.
  • Design, build, evaluate, and maintain AI agents for IT use cases like intent classification, ticket sizing, auto-response drafting, triage, and knowledge-base management.
  • Implement guardrails and human-in-the-loop approval gates for employee-facing or security-sensitive AI agent actions.
  • Apply prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation, and agent-orchestration patterns, integrating agents with enterprise platforms.
  • Establish evaluation, monitoring, and audit practices for AI agent behavior.
  • Coach systems administrators in scripting, version control, API usage, and automation design.
  • Establish engineering practices for the IT team, including source control, code review, testing, documentation, and safe change management.
  • Run knowledge-sharing sessions and create reusable automation templates, libraries, and playbooks.
  • Champion an automation-first mindset within the team.
  • Own the lifecycle of automations and agents, including monitoring, alerting, error handling, and graceful failure.
  • Partner with Security and IT Compliance to ensure automated access provisioning and agent actions meet security and audit requirements.
  • Maintain clear documentation and runbooks for automations.
