About The Position

Atlantic Union’s Summer Internship program is a professional development opportunity for local students to gain practical work experience, equip themselves with the skills and network that empower and prepare students to transition into technology careers post-graduation. Students have the ability to build professional networks, relevant skills, and receive training and mentoring throughout the program. Atlantic Union’s Information Security Intern Program is designed to give college students an introduction into Information Security Risk Management and Governance. It is our intent to give the Intern real assignments that increase their exposure to diverse skillsets that provide valuable experience, while contributing to the continued success of the AUB Information Security Department. Position Accountabilities The Intern is provided assignments that include the major processes within the AUB Information Security Department. The intern will have the opportunity to participate in one or more of the following: Risk Assessment & Compliance: Assist in conducting IT risk assessments, vendor risk reviews, cataloging and treatment of risk issues, and maintaining compliance with regulations (e.g., NIST, GLBA). Access Management: Participate in user access reviews and evaluate access requests. Documentation & Procedures: Develop and update security policies, standards, and standard operating procedures (SOPs). Projects & Reporting: Assist with security projects, including preparing dashboards and reports using tools like Excel or Power BI. Identify, design and collect metrics for the Information Security Program. Support improvement efforts around data quality for tracking technology and data assets within System of Record (SoR) and other governance systems. Organizational Relationship This position reports to the Atlantic Union Bank (AUB) Business Information Security Officer (BISO) and has a hybrid residency, with a minimum of two days onsite each week.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years’ old
  • Currently working on a degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Security, Physics, Engineering or a related field.
  • Current enrollment in an accredited college or university is required, and Students must be undergraduates entering their junior or senior year or currently pursuing a graduate level degree
  • Must be available to work a 40-hour week, Monday through Friday
  • Must submit a resume and cover letter highlighting accomplishments, professional and academic goals, and expectations of this internship position
  • Submission of transcripts and two professional or academic references
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office tools
  • Interest in cyber security and cyber threats
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organization skills
  • Must be able to function well with indirect supervision
