Requirements

  • 2–5 years of relevant legal experience, in a law firm, corporate legal department, or construction/insurance setting
  • Strong contract drafting and review skills, with attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple matters independently and prioritize under deadline pressure
  • Clear, practical communication style — comfortable working directly with non-lawyer business partners (PMs, PEs, Directors)
  • Knowledge of contract law and commercial construction contracting principles.
  • Knowledge of corporate governance, entity management, and regulatory filing requirements.
  • Knowledge of workers' compensation, general liability, and insurance claims processes.
  • Knowledge of employment law principles and legal compliance requirements.
  • Understanding of construction industry practices, project delivery methods, and risk allocation.
  • Knowledge of legal research methods and legal writing standards.
  • Strong legal drafting, contract review, and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent legal research, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to identify legal and business risks and recommend practical solutions.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex legal concepts to non-legal audiences.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications and legal document management systems.
  • Strong attention to detail while maintaining efficiency in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound professional judgment.
  • Ability to interpret contracts, statutes, regulations, and legal precedents.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to build trusted relationships with internal stakeholders at all organizational levels.
  • Ability to prioritize competing legal matters and meet deadlines in a dynamic business environment.
  • Ability to negotiate effectively while maintaining positive business relationships.
  • Ability to adapt to changing business priorities and legal requirements.
  • Ability to exercise discretion when handling confidential and privileged information.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, file, and maintain corporate filings and entity records across U.S. Engineering's subsidiaries
  • Support workers' compensation claims, including coordination with adjusters, claims tracking, and internal reporting
  • Assist with general liability, property, and other insurance claims, including coverage analysis and claims correspondence
  • Provide legal support on employment matters as needed, in coordination with HR and the General Counsel
  • Help track and manage project-level legal risk, including claims, change orders, and disputes on active construction projects
