About The Position

CarMax, the nation’s leading used car retailer, is seeking an attorney to work with the CarMax Legal Department Corporate and Operations Legal Team to handle a wide variety of commercial and transactional legal matters. This individual will report to the Associate General Counsel.

Requirements

4+ years experience practicing law, with focus on commercial contracting and/or technology preferred
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Excellent negotiation skills
Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
Ability to handle a variety of projects simultaneously with minimal supervision
Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. Sponsorship will not be considered for this specific role.

Responsibilities

Draft, review and negotiate broad range of commercial contracts supporting the CarMax enterprise. Representative commercial transactions include agreements related to product and services, technology (including SaaS), intellectual property and data licensing, marketing, consulting services and employee benefits
Revise, develop and implement standardized templates, clause libraries, and transactional playbook
Provide practical legal advice to various corporate departments regarding contractual obligations, related risks and requirements of applicable law
Provide legal advice to the business regarding artificial intelligence, including performing risk assessments and drafting policies
Coordinate special projects with various corporate departments
Assist in ongoing corporate compliance efforts
Engage and manage outside counsel, as needed
