About The Position

Dewberry’s Legal group is actively seeking a part-time hire as Corporate Counsel, Special Projects to support and report to Dewberry’s General Counsel. This role will be based out of Dewberry’s headquarters in Fairfax, Virginia. The appropriately qualified applicant will be able to demonstrate an established career in engineering and construction law and legal issues and risk management related to engineering, construction, and other technical services. Requirements

  • J.D. Degree from accredited law school
  • Undergraduate engineering degree
  • Member in good standing with any U.S. state bar
  • International Risk Management Institute designated Construction Risk and Insurance Specialist
  • Prior General Counsel experience for engineering and construction company with 800+ employees
  • Prior Deputy General Counsel experience for an ENR top 10 design firm
  • Prior international engineering and construction services experience
  • Extensive construction and professional services risk management experience
  • Extensive litigation management and claims management experience
  • Substantial experience with review, preparation and negotiation of contracts; insurance and bonding matters; supervision of trial counsel; investigation of and response to matters involving occupational safety and health, equal employment opportunity, labor relations; review and evaluation of proposals and bids; preparation of bid protest responses; contracting officers’ final decisions and documents for submission to Board of Contracts Appeals; counseling source evaluation boards; and working with management to achieve early claim identification, avoidance, response, mitigation and resolution.
