About The Position

WorkWhile is seeking an ambitious Corporate Communications Lead to build a media powerhouse that drives the conversation on the labor economy. The goal is to position Workwhile as the primary source for labor market intelligence, moving beyond product announcements to publish "breaking news" on the state of the hourly workforce. This role involves leveraging the company's worker data, technology, and academic partnerships to create compelling stories that dominate the news cycle.

Requirements

  • A Self-Starter with Hustle: Does not wait for permission or a fully formed brief; connects the dots between data trends and headlines.
  • A Storyteller at Heart: Understands that data is boring without a narrative and can translate complex economic concepts into punchy, mainstream headlines.
  • Media Savvy: Has existing relationships with business and tech reporters or the fearlessness to build them from scratch.
  • Understands what a producer at CNBC or a writer at the WSJ needs to make a story work.
  • Be able to build relationships with major social media influencers.
  • Data Fluency: Is data-literate and knows how to ask the right questions of a dataset to find the "hook."
  • Ambition: Views this role as a stepping stone to becoming a Chief Communications Officer or a major voice in the industry.

Responsibilities

  • Build the "CNBC of Main Street": Develop and execute a content strategy that positions Workwhile as the primary source for labor market intelligence.
  • Move beyond product announcements to publish "breaking news" on the state of the hourly workforce.
  • Be the mouthpiece for Workwhile Econ Lab: Serve as the editor-in-chief of our internal data lab.
  • Work closely with our data science team to extract trends and package them into digestible, quotable reports for top-tier media.
  • Manage Academic Relations: Leverage relationships with leading labor professors and economists.
  • Facilitate op-eds that lend academic rigor to our market observations.
  • Humanize the Data: Use our large worker pool to find and tell powerful individual stories that put a face to the data.
  • Connect reporters with workers who can speak to the realities of the modern economy.
  • Newsjacking & Rapid Response: Monitor the news cycle relentlessly and ensure Workwhile is immediately pitching a unique angle or data point to insert our brand into coverage of economic news.
