About The Position

Newmark Group, Inc. is a world leader in commercial real estate, providing comprehensive services and products for every phase of the property life cycle. The Corporate Accountant will be responsible for accounting duties of a complex nature in support of accounting functions for a portfolio of markets. This role involves preparing monthly financial reporting, including journal entries, accruals, and balance sheet account analyses, and interacting closely with internal and external clients to address inquiries. The corporate accounting team supports various markets with commercial and residential property portfolios.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in accounting or equivalent experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite applications, including Microsoft Excel and Outlook.
  • Experience with a computerized ERP system required.
  • Effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) regulations.
  • Works effectively in a team environment through collaboration and partnership.
  • Customer service oriented with an aspiration to succeed with the client in mind.
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems effectively by offering solutions to resolve issues.
  • Ability to read and understand complex documents such as property management agreements.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Oracle system a plus.
  • Experience with full-cycle accounting and the preparation of monthly financial statement packages, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Complete monthly accounting for a portfolio of markets.
  • Responsible for the preparation of the daily, monthly, quarterly and annual financial/accounting activities and all financial statements and reporting.
  • Provide a high level of customer service to the market leaders, property management team and clients associated with your markets.
  • Responsible for the daily entry of receipt posting of payments payable to Newmark.
  • Responsible for Ad-Hoc invoice creation.
  • Adopt and follow new process improvements and process changes.
  • Work closely with Controller/Assistant Controller on day-to-day functions.
  • Work independently and ensure all internal and external deadlines are met.
  • Proactively reach out to manager regarding questions.
  • Responsible for assisting with client and internal audits by providing requested documents and answering questions.
  • Responsible for providing internal audit samples for SOX and SOC1 audit.
  • Coordinates accounting matters with other departments, locations and divisions.
  • Partners with market leaders to ensure financials are accurate and delivered timely, directly impacting client satisfaction.
  • Ensures all expenses and receipts and other accounting transactions for the period are accurately recorded.
  • Responds to and resolves issues and requests from property management teams and clients.
  • Research open accounting issues and recognizes potential issues and/or conflicts and implements solutions.
