About The Position

As the Core Shed Supervisor, you will oversee a team of technicians, coordinate core and reverse circulation (RC) sample workflows, and maintain strong quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) practices. You will work closely with geologists, drilling teams, and laboratories to ensure samples are handled properly from field collection through final storage and shipment. This position is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment, enjoys leading others, and takes pride in maintaining strong safety standards, organization, and data accuracy. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, OR High School Diploma or equivalent with relevant technical or leadership experience required.
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience in a core shed, geological field operations, or sampling/logistics environment required.
  • Previous supervisory or leadership experience in a technical or operational setting preferred.
  • Strong understanding of core and RC sampling processes, QA/QC procedures, and laboratory workflows preferred.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple workflows in a fast-paced, high-accountability environment.
  • Experience using Microsoft Excel, inventory tracking tools, and digital file management systems preferred.
  • Forklift certification preferred or willingness to obtain certification.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to coordinate across teams and departments.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise daily operations within the core shed, ensuring safe, efficient, and organized workflows across multiple shifts.
  • Assign and coordinate daily tasks for technicians, including shipping preparation, QA/QC sample preparation, photography, density testing, and warehouse activities.
  • Oversee the full lifecycle of core and RC samples, from field pickup through processing, storage, and shipment.
  • Ensure QA/QC samples—including standards, blanks, and duplicates—are prepared and inserted according to geologist requirements.
  • Monitor QA/QC performance, track lab results, and coordinate reruns or follow-up actions when necessary.
  • Maintain accurate sample tracking, documentation, and inventory records using spreadsheets and digital systems.
  • Direct warehouse activities, including pallet organization, project labeling, and storage of pulps, rejects, and chip trays.
  • Ensure proper training and safe use of equipment, including forklifts, and enforce compliance with all safety procedures.
  • Conduct routine safety inspections and support compliance with safety programs, including fire extinguisher inspections and field-level risk assessments.
  • Train new core shed technicians using structured onboarding and provide ongoing coaching and performance support.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact between geologists, drilling contractors, laboratories, and technical teams.
  • Communicate sample priorities, workflow updates, and project progress to team members and stakeholders.
  • Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and attention to detail while maintaining productivity and workflow timelines.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts to enhance efficiency, safety, and quality across core shed operations.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support geological and drilling programs.
