About The Position

Etched’s Core Engineering team identifies critical gaps across the company and builds solutions from the ground up, often within days. Projects may include creating internal tools for hardware teams, prototyping manufacturing execution systems, or designing, evaluating, and deploying agentic systems for challenging R&D problems. The intern will own a real project scoped for production and intended to shape how Etched operates. The role calls for strong full-stack engineering, product sense, accountability, comfort with ambiguity, and the ability to move quickly while maintaining quality. The work is time-sensitive and business-critical, and the role is not limited to standard 9-to-5 hours. Interns will receive direct mentorship from industry leaders and engineers. The internship is a paid, 12-week program running June through August 2026, based at Etched’s office in San Jose, California. Etched is an in-person company with teams in San Jose and Taipei, and its technical staff contribute across engineering and research disciplines.

Requirements

Exceptional full-stack engineering capabilities.
Comfort with Python and TypeScript, including reading, modifying, debugging, and directing AI to write code effectively.
Strong product sense, including AI tooling proficiency and design taste.
Bias toward action and comfort working with incomplete information and ambiguity.
Ability to solve difficult problems across stacks and domains, including in unfamiliar areas.
A project or product the candidate can explain in depth.
Personal accountability and ability to build from the ground up.

Nice To Haves

Data engineering, infrastructure, or DevOps experience, including deploying operational systems in enterprise environments.
Experience using frontier models on frontier problems, with an evaluation-driven approach to measuring AI systems, identifying shortcomings, and improving results.
High agency and comfort with ambiguity, including finding the real problem to solve.
Prior startup experience, especially during hypergrowth.
