The Community-Oriented Response and Assistance (CORA) team is a multidisciplinary group of first responders and mental health professionals who organize outreach to communities affected by tragedy and violence in Albuquerque. CORA begins outreach within a 72-hour window after the incident, identifying the area affected, reaching out to community leaders, organizing a meeting or alternative method of outreach and connection. The CORA Responder coordinates the outreach effort, finalizes scheduling, and sends out invitations to appropriate parties. At the event, the Responder provides education on grief and trauma, explains what individuals can expect while processing the event, and how to connect to resources. They also provide resource guides and soft transfers to mental health providers. This is a safety-sensitive position subject to random drug/alcohol testing and requires working under potentially abusive, hazardous, or emergency conditions.
