About The Position

The Copper Pipe Assembler performs routine copper brazing operations using established work instructions, drawings, and procedures. This role is responsible for assembling, preparing, and brazing copper components while following safety, cleanliness, and quality requirements. Work is completed under moderate supervision, with senior brazers or Leads providing direction for complex assemblies, troubleshooting, or testing activities.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of copper brazing techniques and safe torch operation
  • Basic to intermediate blueprint reading skills (2‑view, simple assemblies)
  • Understanding of basic filler metals and flux use (training provided)
  • High School Diploma/GED preferred
  • 1–2+ years brazing, soldering, or related metal‑joining experience preferred
  • Manufacturing or HVAC/R assembly experience beneficial but not required
  • Ability to obtain company brazing qualification (training provided)
  • Or an equivalent combination of education, training, or experience

Responsibilities

  • Perform copper brazing using approved methods (e.g., oxy/acetylene torch) based on standard work instructions
  • Prepare, clean, and assemble copper parts; apply flux as required
  • Maintain proper heat control and visually monitor joint temperature during brazing
  • Follow established filler metal usage; does not select filler metals independently
  • Assemble components according to drawings, BOMs, and written instructions
  • Compare kit contents with BOM and report discrepancies to Production Control or supervisor
  • Cap or plug open tubing lines to prevent contamination during assembly
  • Perform visual inspection of brazed joints for surface defects
  • Measure completed assemblies using calipers, templates, or basic gauges
  • Identify obvious defects and seek support from senior brazers or Quality for troubleshooting
  • Complete routing sheets, travelers, bar code scans, or other required production entries
  • Follow controlled work instructions and document work performed accurately
  • Support senior personnel with more complex builds or rework activities
