About The Position

The Faculty of Arts & Science is seeking a Coordinator, Student Groups and Leadership Opportunities (CSGLO) for New College. New College is committed to social justice and supporting its diverse student body. The CSGLO will report to the Assistant to the Dean, Student Life and Leadership, and will be responsible for supporting student government, student group support, leadership development, mentorship, career education, and community engagement. This role focuses on enhancing the student experience, particularly for student groups and commuter students. The CSGLO will act as a scholar-practitioner, developing and implementing educational programs with defined learning outcomes, pedagogical techniques, and evaluation methods. This includes contributing to a student life communications strategy, developing digital and print materials, drafting content, and managing social media. The incumbent will work closely with the New College Student Council, levy groups, course unions, and clubs, providing advising and training on topics such as event planning, risk assessment, financial management, equity, diversity, inclusion, teamwork, and conflict management. The role involves informing key priorities, developing assessment tools, conducting analyses, preparing reports, and communicating with stakeholders. Evening and weekend work is regularly required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience. Study in student development, leadership development, community development, cross-cultural communications, or adult education preferred.
  • Minimum four (4) years of relevant experience providing administrative and advising support to students, student leaders, and student organizations in a post-secondary education institution.
  • Demonstrated experience developing, implementing, and assessing educational programs and initiatives designed to support student success in higher education.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and implementing mentorship programming, and programming geared to commuter students.
  • Demonstrated experience with supporting students in distress and knowledge of risk management procedures.
  • Experience with evaluation and research tools, and demonstrated ability to analyze and synthesize data.
  • Experience in facilitating collaborative partnerships with a variety of university stakeholders including students, student leaders, staff, faculty, and alumni.
  • Experience advising student societies, levy groups, course unions, and/or clubs.
  • Experience working with diverse communities and across diverse contexts.
  • Experience supporting casual staff, work-study students and volunteers in a unionized environment; demonstrated experience taking a leadership and coaching role within teams.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and executing communications strategies for events and programming; experience creating promotional content for digital, print, and social media.
  • Advanced skills with Microsoft Office (e.g. Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint).
  • Demonstrated skills and ability to provide effective guidance and advice to students, student leaders and organizations in a responsive, empathetic, thoughtful, and discreet manner.
  • Demonstrated understanding of a student-centered approach with sensitivity to principles of equity and inclusivity.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and conflict management skills.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving and conflict resolution skills, including the ability to make quick, sound judgments under pressure.
  • Excellent oral and written communication, and public speaking skills.
  • Ability to work some evenings and weekends

Nice To Haves

  • Successfully completed and received a certificate for ASIST and safeTALK.

Responsibilities

  • Developing student assessment plans to support student learning outcomes and competencies
