About The Position

The Coordinator of Student and Teacher Engagement develops and implements dynamic art-making and learning experiences for prekindergarten through twelfth-grade students and educators at the High Museum of Art. This role leads the planning and coordination of art-making workshops for students, contributes to curriculum and content development for workshops and guided tours, coordinates educator professional learning, supports teacher resource development, and manages the museum’s student exhibition program. Working closely with the Education team, this position ensures that all student and teacher experiences are meaningful. Part of the High’s Learning and Civic Engagement department, this role cultivates growth through inquiry and connection to self, others, and the wider world, in alignment with the museum’s mission, values, and educational methods.

Requirements

  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and ability to work independently and with a variety of people, and a professional demeanor.
  • Knowledge of and enthusiasm for art and visual culture.
  • Undergraduate degree in art education, art history, studio art, or related field preferred; 2–3 years of experience in museum education, teaching, or arts programming required.
  • Experience working with teaching artists and/or youth programs strongly preferred.
  • Strong writing skills.
  • Strong public speaking skills, comfortable speaking to groups.
  • Basic math and numerical reasoning skills for data accuracy, measurements, and record keeping.
  • Ability to use basic math skills for tracking, organizing, and verifying information.

Responsibilities

  • Schedule and coordinate teaching artists for student and teacher workshops.
  • Coordinate workshop implementation, including materials management, upkeep, preparation, and on-site coordination.
  • Evaluate workshop effectiveness and support continuous improvement.
  • Design, implement, coordinate teacher appreciation events, teacher professional development, and educator meetings.
  • Support Assistant Director of Education in coordinating the High Museum Administrator Advisory Committee and teacher focus groups.
  • Research and develop student- and teacher-centered, inquiry-based art-making workshops and student tour content alongside the Assistant Director, Education.
  • Draft teacher resources connected to the High’s collections and special exhibitions under the oversight of the Assistant Director, Education.
  • Collaborate with teaching artists to develop engaging, standards-aligned lesson content.
  • Collaborate with Education and Museum Interpretation teams to align content with exhibitions and collections.
  • Coordinate and implement the student exhibition program (12–14 exhibitions annually).
  • Maintain exhibition calendar and communicate with participating schools involved in the student exhibition program by communicating guidelines, creating labels and certificates, and assist with exhibition installation.
  • Collaborate with internal departments to execute student exhibition openings and events.
  • Work closely with Coordinator of School Groups and Coordinator of School Partnerships to align scheduling and program delivery.
  • Ensure workshop experiences integrate seamlessly into fieldtrip schedules.
  • Assist with administrative tasks including budget tracking, supply orders, and scheduling.
  • Support docent program through training and tour guide development with Museum Interpretation team.
  • Participate in Education department initiatives and events as needed.
