About The Position

The employee who serves in this position will support the planning, execution, and evaluation of communications and marketing initiatives that strengthens Norfolk Public School’s brand, increase engagement, and advance strategic priorities. This position serves as a project manager and communications professional, coordinating campaigns across digital, print, social media, internal communications, public relations, and community engagement. The coordinator works collaboratively across departments to ensure consistent messaging, effective storytelling, and timely delivery of communications that inform, inspire, and build trust among stakeholders. The employee is also responsible for developing relationships with Norfolk Public Schools staff, partner agencies and for project management, scheduling and tracking of distributed work.

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively organize and present information, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work within difficult time constraints and under stressful conditions.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism, English, Digital Media, or a related field.
  • Minimum of four years of professional experience in graphic design, website development, and media production.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate implementation of the organization's strategic communications plan.
  • Develop communication strategies supporting organizational priorities, initiatives, and campaigns.
  • Manage integrated marketing campaigns across multiple platforms.
  • Develop creative concepts and visual campaigns aligned with organizational messaging and strategy.
  • Prepare print-ready files and coordinate with vendors when necessary.
  • Write and edit: news releases, feature stories, website content, newsletters, marketing copy, executive messages, email communications and annual reports
  • Identify and develop compelling stories highlighting organizational achievements, employees, clients, students, or community impact.
  • Update website content using the organization's content management system.
  • Assist in developing relationships with local, regional, and industry media.
  • Ensure mobile responsiveness and cross-browser compatibility.
  • Develop communication materials that strengthen organizational culture and employee engagement.
  • Coordinate communications supporting community partnerships and assist in planning public events and outreach activities.
  • Manage multiple communication projects simultaneously.
  • Track key performance indicators (KPIs) for communication and marketing efforts.
  • Conduct audience research and evaluate campaign effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with leadership and teams to develop visual storytelling strategies.
  • Support content creation for digital campaigns, newsletters, and social media.
  • Ensure all communications materials align with brand voice and messaging.
  • Performs other duties and manages special projects as assigned.
