About The Position

The Radiology Scheduling Specialist provides exceptional patient-centered customer service while coordinating and processing requests for radiology examinations. This role is responsible for obtaining and verifying information necessary for intake triage, appointment scheduling, referral processing, patient registration, and directing patients to appropriate faculty physicians in accordance with established policies, procedures, and administrative protocols. Working in a high-volume, fast-paced environment, the specialist communicates effectively with patients, physicians, clinic staff, and technical personnel to ensure accurate and timely scheduling of services. Responsibilities include reviewing imaging orders for completeness and verifying that requested examinations are appropriate based on the clinical indication, helping protect the financial and operational interests of the organization. The position requires adherence to compliance standards and the ability to remain current with policy and regulatory updates. The specialist must demonstrate proficiency in the EPIC electronic health record system, scanning and managing orders within web-based scheduling applications (Media Imaging), and possess a working knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, ICD-10 coding, and CPT coding.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of clerical and/or customer service experience required, preferably in a healthcare or hospitality-related environment.
  • Demonstrated clinical aptitude and ability to understand healthcare processes.
  • Strong computer skills with experience using multiple software applications and electronic systems.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to remain professional and perform effectively in stressful, urgent, or challenging situations.
  • Comfortable discussing financial responsibilities and personal health information with patients in a professional and confidential manner.
  • Proven ability to multitask, prioritize responsibilities, solve problems, and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team while maintaining a high level of patient focus.
  • Comfortable obtaining and sharing information with patients, physicians, clinic staff, and technical/clinical personnel.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of medical terminology, basic anatomy, CPT coding, and ICD-10 coding preferred through either on-the-job experience or successful completion of related coursework.
