About The Position

The Coordinator POCT performs and demonstrates proficiency in Point of Care testing as it relates to patient care. The coordinator develops relationships with nursing areas to promote and monitor testing, assists with instruction for testing personnel in patient care areas, and teaches clinical laboratory tests and procedures. The role helps ensure high-quality bedside testing and maintains thorough knowledge of CAP, JCAHO, and CLIA regulations applicable to Point of Care testing. With input from laboratory staff and management, the coordinator develops and maintains the Laboratory’s Performance Improvement program.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree.
• ASCP registration.
• Three years as an MT and/or two years as a laboratory supervisor.
• Ability to listen, interact, and communicate verbally and in writing.

Responsibilities

• Perform testing procedures competently.
• Perform, monitor, and evaluate quality control for bedside testing.
• Instruct nursing staff in the use of instrumentation and develop nursing staff competencies.
• Maintain and compile Performance Improvement data for the Laboratory.
• Serve as the POCT committee chairperson.
• Research new POCT instruments and hospital needs, and make recommendations to the Lab Technical Manager.
• Maintain thorough knowledge of CAP, JCAHO, and CLIA regulations as they relate to the Laboratory and Point of Care testing.
• Be present and ready to work scheduled hours.
