About The Position

Under the direct supervision of the Director of Youth Ministry, in collaboration with the Pastor, this role plans, coordinates, implements, develops, and evaluates all facets of the high school catechetical and youth ministry program with a Life Teen emphasis. The position collaborates with the Coordinator of EDGE Middle School Ministry Program and the Pastor to ensure a unified vision and implementation of both levels of youth ministry. Responsibilities include coordinating the recruitment, orientation, training, and motivation of team members, fostering leadership development in youth, managing a youth office, promoting youth programs within the parish and community, maintaining professional competency, and participating as a member of the parish staff.

Requirements

  • Responsible for continual development and smooth operation of The Youth Ministry Program in a mature, efficient, and professional manner.
  • Maintaining confidentiality and continuous professional development through study and self-examination.
  • Good knowledge of adolescent development and youth ministry methods.
  • Willingness to stay current in trends of youth ministry and catechesis of youth.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Ability to work within collaborative ministry with members of parish staff of a growing parish.
  • Ability to anticipate solutions to problems.
  • Ability to keep accurate records on youth.
  • Dexterity in organizing programs.
  • Must be in good health and energetic to participate in youth activities.
  • Complete and maintain Diocesan Safe Environment Training as required by the Diocese.
  • Abide by Diocesan Youth Ministry policies and procedures.
  • Must possess a valid Arizona Driver’s License and own personal transportation.
  • Employees are subject to Diocesan and parish personnel policies prescribed for all personnel.

Nice To Haves

  • Computer literacy preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, or other related field or equivalent or a Youth Minister Certificate preferred.
  • Three years' experience in ministry preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, coordinates, implements, develops, and evaluates all facets of youth ministry programs with a Life Teen emphasis.
  • Assesses the needs of the parish for youth ministry programs.
  • Forms a core team for regular planning sessions and special meetings.
  • Schedules all classes and provides for the needs of catechists.
  • Provides parent education sessions as necessary.
  • Attends youth functions as necessary.
  • Implements an evaluation process for programs.
  • Acts as an advocate for youth as appropriate.
  • Coordinates and attends retreats as needed.
  • Assists in the leadership development of youth by encouraging involvement in Life Teen and the EDGE Core Team.
  • Forms youth planning teams.
  • Publicizes youth attendance at diocesan functions.
  • Encourages involvement in leadership conferences.
  • Promotes youth within the parish and wider community by publicizing youth programs.
  • Keeps abreast of current trends in youth needs.
  • Maintains communication with youth registered in the parish.
  • Maintains contact with schools and other community youth groups.
  • Manages scheduling and registration for youth programs.
  • Recruits, interviews, and trains a team of adults and teens to work at these programs.
  • Schedules regular team meetings for planning, lesson review, and evaluation.
  • Advertises through the website, bulletin, social media, and video at masses.
  • Assists in the coordination of social justice and outreach activities for all formation programs.
  • Assists in the planning and execution of Vacation Bible School or similar summer programming.
  • Maintains professional competency by staying aware of current trends in youth ministry, continuing education, and attending deanery meetings, workshops, and in-service training.
  • Collaborates with the Pastor and Director of Youth Ministry in planning and goal setting for Christian Formation.
  • Participates as a member of the parish staff, offering mutual support to staff members.
  • Meets regularly with the Director of Youth Ministry.
  • Attends weekly staff prayer and staff meetings.
  • Collaborates with the Pastor and Director of Youth Ministry by serving on the planning team for the Youth Liturgy.
