About The Position

This part-time position (25 hrs./wk.) will include giving direction and participation in youth catechesis, sacramental preparation, Adult Christian Enrichment, and the RCIA program. The role reports to the Pastor and is classified as Salaried/Exempt.

Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree in Theology, Catechesis, or related field
  • Must be a practicing Roman Catholic.
  • 5 years of experience working in a Catholic institution with adults and/or youth.
  • Demonstrate effectively the use of classroom techniques.
  • Familiarity with the curriculum for sacramental preparation.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Strong communication skills both written and oral.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others.
  • Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with co-workers, families, and children.
  • Experience in Microsoft and publisher is essential.
  • Commitment to continued personal growth in faith and professional advancement.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage the catechetical program and preparation for the reception of sacraments of initiation and Confirmation for both candidates and parents.
  • Train and supervise volunteers to assist in the catechetical education of children and ensure all volunteers are properly trained and certified in the VIRTUS Child Safety Environment.
  • Meet with parents of children to assist them in method and content for taking lessons learned in the Church and practicing them in their homes.
  • Provide spiritual direction and education to parents so they recognize their responsibility to raise their children in the faith.
  • Organize special events and community functions to integrate the social, liturgical, and spiritual life of the church into the lives of the children (e.g., faith carnivals, summer bible schools, Easter egg hunts, blessing of the animals, special liturgies for children).
  • Work with the Diocesan Director for catechetics to assure compliance with diocesan regulations and attend diocesan sponsored workshops and meetings.
  • Develop and teach in a program of initiation for adult aspirants (RCIA) to the Catholic Faith and Church membership.
  • Provide a series of educational programs for adult members of the parish seeking to enrich their understanding of the Faith through biblical studies, theological subjects, and social issues.
  • Promote and provide programs through various social and published media, pulpit communications, and personal outreach.
  • Collaborate with the pastor and parish staff to realize the parish mission through personal contact and community building, planning, and executing the parish goals and objectives.
  • Perform other unspecified actions that are particular to the gifts and skill of the applicant and that the Pastor might reasonably request in fulfilling the spiritual mission and diocesan requirements for the parish.
