About The Position

These experiences not only enhance students’ sense of belonging and overall collegiate journey but also equip them with essential career readiness skills that prepare them for success beyond graduation. Student and Family Engagement is part of Campus Life within the Division of Student Affairs at Oklahoma State University. The unit works to develop and maintain students’ sense of belonging by cultivating individual connection, involvement, and development that leads to emotional, cognitive, and behavioral engagement. From a Family Engagement perspective, the unit facilitates the connection of students’ immediate, extended and/or chosen family members with Oklahoma State University, creating partnerships of support for student learning, development and success. The Family Engagement Coordinator plays a critical role in enhancing meaningful connections between students’ families and the university community as well as with each other. This position is responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining programs, resources, and events that enhance family awareness of campus processes, traditions, and opportunities. Additionally, the position works to engage families in activities that promote student well-being, career readiness, and citizenship, while also managing family volunteer involvement and providing training to faculty and staff on family-related concerns. The role collaborates extensively with campus partners to create varying, family-focused programming and supports onboarding efforts for families of new students. The Family Engagement Coordinator also manages family communications, responding to inquiries and maintaining accurate, timely information across digital platforms. In addition to role-specific responsibilities, the coordinator provides programmatic and administrative support across the Student Engagement function, contributes to assessment efforts, and participates in other Campus Life functions, departmental communication and outreach efforts as an essential part of the team. This position reports to the Director of Student and Family Engagement within Campus Life and works collaboratively with units across both Student Affairs and Academic Affairs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's in a related field such as education, higher education, psychology, human development, counseling, leadership, social work, leisure studies, recreation management, or nonprofit management. (degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date)
  • Two years of relevant professional work experience. Post-secondary education may substitute for years of experience.
  • Knowledgeable about and/or skills in college student development and educational best practices and principles.
  • High degree of personal/professional integrity, respect for privacy and confidentiality, and a demonstrated sense of ethics.
  • Ability to work independently, multi-task, and coordinate numerous detailed tasks as well as proven success with working on a team.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven ability to work with populations of different backgrounds and life experiences.
  • Demonstrated asset-based thinking skills when working with others.
  • Demonstrated ability to reframe complex situations to put forward plans of action with deliverables.
  • The proven ability to collaborate successfully with multiple departments.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's in a related field such as education, higher education, psychology, human development, counseling, leadership, social work.
  • Two or more years of full-time consistent professional experience in student affairs, student development, or work supporting students in a higher education setting.
  • Ability to lift 25 pounds.
