About The Position

Reporting to the Director of Student Disability Services, the Coordinator of Disability Training Programs and Communications works to increase the campus community's awareness of the institution's compliance obligations, as well as offer educational programming on how to establish an inclusive environment for individuals with disabilities. The trainer will work collaboratively with SDS staff, disability liaisons, vendors, academic units, and campus stakeholders on educational and awareness activities. This position will create educational content to support the implementation of reasonable accommodations for individuals with disabilities under the Rehabilitation Act Section 504 and the ADA to ensure that they are able to fully engage in the life of the University. In collaboration with the SDS staff, the Coordinator of Disability Training Programs and Communications will actively coordinate initiatives and programs for stakeholders, creating educational content, maintain SDS website communications and social media accounts, coordinate awareness campaigns, assessing compliance services, collecting data on key performance indicators, and represent Student Disability Services within the UChicago community.

Requirements

  • Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.

  • Proven proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Publisher), Google Workspace, Box, and other relevant office software.
  • Demonstrated experience managing professional social media accounts, including content creation and audience engagement.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain multi-page websites, ideally with experience in accessible web design.
  • Solid knowledge of digital accessibility standards and best practices for creating inclusive content.
  • Strong problem-solving and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams.
  • Ability to work independently, demonstrating initiative and sound judgement.
  • Proven ability to establish rapport with colleagues and students while maintaining strict confidentiality.
  • Capacity to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks, and consistently meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering disability inclusion and advancing equitable practices within higher education.
  • Project management skills, including planning, coordinating resources, monitoring progress, and delivering results within established timelines.
  • Ability to use computers extensively for more than 6 hours at a time.
  • Ability to learn and use computers, software, assistive technology, and office equipment.
  • Ability to read, think, problem solve, and exercise reasonable judgement.
  • Ability to implement consistently multiple-step processes, provide technical support, and train people of diverse abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Research and develop training content on behalf of SDS for students, staff, parents, and/or faculty.
  • Create accessible training materials on disability and accessibility related topics; disability culture, etc.
  • Collaborate with campus stakeholders to host programs and training on disability and accessibility topics.
  • Consult with campus partners on accessible events and programming, and model best practices for accessible events.
  • Plan, coordinate, and advertise all SDS events to the campus community
  • Create annual disability awareness campaigns
  • Record and make accessible video content
  • Manage SDS website, YouTube Channel, and social media presence
  • Participate in and attend campus-wide events to ensure accessibility and disability are addressed/represented
  • Survey and collect data on key performance indicators and suggest changes
  • Prepare financial and/or administrative reports; contributes data for annual and other program reports;
  • May assist the Director in managing the budget, monitoring and reconciling accounts, and purchases related to specific portfolio.
  • Uses moderate/solid understanding and experience to administer the delivery of services to program participants and/or beneficiaries.
  • Has moderate/high levels of interactions with faculty, researchers and staff for committee work or information.
  • Performs other related work as needed.
