About The Position

The primary work location for this position may be determined based on the successful candidate's residence. The position may be assigned to the most appropriate organizational location, taking into consideration operational needs and geographic alignment. Under general supervision, this role coordinates the processing of applications, appointments, and privileging for staff and health professionals. Responsibilities include credentialing and privileging physicians and other healthcare professionals, managing meetings, resolving issues and complaints, ensuring healthcare providers adhere to quality regulations and policies, and maintaining credentials/privileges. The role may involve delegating responsibilities and notifying others of the status of these functions. Additionally, it includes collecting and inputting call schedules, coordinating physician orientation, working with medical staff committees on agendas and minutes, and supporting other medical staff functions.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent AND Five years of medical staff/credentialing or health care setting experience.
  • Associate degree in business, health care administration, applied sciences, or related field AND Two years of medical staff/credentialing or health care setting experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to communicate effectively with medical staff and hospital personnel.
  • Ability to be an active and thoughtful participant in institutional initiatives, meetings, and committee work.
  • Working knowledge of hospital accreditation, medical/allied staff credentialing, privileging, appointment and licensure requirements.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work, multitask and engage in continuous work redesign to generate qualitative and quantitative efficiencies.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Access) and internet resources.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, health care administration or related field.
  • Certification by the National Association Medical Staff Services (NAMSS) as a Certified Professional in Medical Services Management (CPMSM) or a Certified Provider Credentialing Specialist (CPCS).

Responsibilities

  • Organizes and oversees the credentialing approval process for medical staff and allied health professionals, including new staff applications and privileges, reappointments and updated privileges, primary source verification of licensure, education, training, etc. Maintains and validates this information as necessary in primary physician database.
  • Prepares agendas and related materials for highest level medical staff committees. Prepares and keeps permanent record of proceedings (minutes) and actions of each committee. Assures expeditious follow-through on action items and policy changes. Disseminates information accordingly. Assures overall continuity of medical staff activities.
  • Coordinates the management of the credentialing database and associated modules, ensuring accuracy of data and reporting to downstream systems. Monitors critical data for extensive analysis and report generation.
  • With the department manager and other department leaders, plans, develops and implements long and short-term goals for medical staff as approved by the medical staff committee.
  • Deals sensitively and professionally with physicians regarding problems and queries.
  • Collects and inputs call schedules.
  • Coordinates physician orientation.
  • Supports other medical staff functions.
