About The Position

The Coordinator, Hockey Communications is the day-to-day execution engine behind how the Chicago Blackhawks communicate with our media and fanbase. From game previews highlighting key matchups that keep our fans informed to game notes that paint the statistical story for our media and broadcasters, this role will help produce the materials that fuel all hockey-related communications. This position also heavily supports the organization’s media servicing operation, including overseeing press box logistics and assisting in credentialing, while often serving as the initial point of contact for members of the media. This role sits close to the team, close to the media and close to our internal content team. You will work practices, game nights, and press availabilities, and will develop the writing skills and media instincts that define a career in hockey communications. The position is also heavily rooted in statistical research and will be relied upon to highlight unique hockey moments and ensure accurate hockey storytelling across the business in all internal and public-facing messaging.

Requirements

  • 1-2 years of experience in communications, media relations, sports information, or journalism.
  • Strong writing skills with the ability to produce clean, accurate copy on tight deadlines; familiarity with AP style.
  • Working knowledge of hockey and comfort with statistics, records, and game-flow terminology.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills across many simultaneous, time-sensitive tasks.
  • Availability for nights, weekends, and holidays throughout the season; will be expected to work all home and away games and will gradually begin to travel extensively.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office; familiarity with Adobe InDesign, hockey statistical databases, media monitoring platforms, or credentialing systems a plus.
  • Positive attitude and strong work ethic with a 'team-first' mentality.
  • Passion for hockey and a genuine desire to build a long-term career in sports communications and broadcast.

Responsibilities

  • Produce game notes, statistical reference packages, and historical/matchup research for each home and road game.
  • Assist the team in drafting routine communications, such as roster transactions, schedule notes and standard announcements.
  • Support media availability logistics, including, but not limited to locker room access windows, practice availabilities, press conference setup and timing, and facilitating individual player and coach interviews as needed.
  • Maintain the team’s statistical records, milestone tracking, and communications reference materials throughout the season.
  • Serve as the organization’s in-game statistics lead, ensuring accurate storytelling while sharing noteworthy stats in real time to be used across multiple departments.
  • Assist the team with maintaining the Blackhawks media database and processing gameday credential requests.
  • Coordinate press box seating assignments and setup, and media workroom logistics on game nights.
  • Compile daily news clips to be distributed across the organization and coordinate with the Brand PR department to assist in additional media monitoring and reporting when necessary.
  • Assist the team in the upkeep of the Blackhawks media website, including maintaining and distributing upcoming team schedules.
  • Research and compile background, such as statistical information, franchise historical data and player context, for editorial and social media content.
  • Draft game previews and post-game recaps for review, contributing to the fan-facing editorial publishing calendar.
  • Coordinate with the Archive & Authentics function on historical angles, milestone callouts, and archival research that enrich editorial content.
  • Under direction from the Director, Communications, oversee the production and updating of all materials related to the yearly Media Guide.
  • Partner with Hockey Operations, Game Presentation, and arena staff on game-night execution.
  • Support the team during high-volume periods, including, but not limited to, training camp, trade deadline, and playoffs.
  • Assist the Director in ensuring hockey operations messaging architecture is accurately disseminated and utilized across all internal messaging and public-facing editorial projects.
