About The Position

The Public Policy Team works to protect our state’s business climate and regional reputation by supporting key policies at the state and local levels that affect metro Atlanta's economy, talent, and community. The Coordinator role on the Government Affairs team will assist the Public Policy team with legislative tracking, research, administrative tasks, attending and summarizing legislative meetings, monitoring activities at various levels of government, attending and representing the chamber at various meetings, and other tasks as assigned. The Coordinator will report to the Manager of Government Affairs, while collaborating with all Public Policy team members and departments at the chamber. Preferred skills for this role include an understanding of the legislative process and an eagerness for continued growth, the ability to manage multiple responsibilities, strong attention to detail, and the ability to communicate professionally to ensure MAC's success in the public policy sphere. Our ideal candidate is a high-achiever, self-starter, and team player with an interest in deepening their understanding of Georgia’s political landscape and policy skills. Successful candidates will be organized, possess strong networking and communication skills, and demonstrate the ability to manage multiple projects without constant supervision.

Requirements

  • One to three years of experience preferred in government affairs, public policy, executive or legislative branch, community affairs, non-profit advocacy, regulatory affairs, or political campaigns
  • Familiarity with the legislative process and Georgia’s political landscape, along with a continued eagerness to grow
  • Ability to quickly synthesize legislation, regulations, data, and strategies, and to communicate them to team members and senior leaders
  • Exceptional attention to detail, organizational skills, and verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent social and interpersonal skills; capacity to interact with a wide variety of people in government, politics, and civic and business leadership
  • Ability to quickly identify barriers to success and devise strategies or tactics to remove or mitigate them
  • Ability to maintain a non-partisan approach in all respects, work with all members of the executive departments and agencies, and the General Assembly and their staffs
  • Self-starter, capable of working both independently and collaboratively with other team members to produce desired outcomes
  • High energy, versatile, and able to multitask; flexible, able to adapt to changing priorities and plans

Responsibilities

  • Develop a strong understanding of MAC’s legislative priorities, and work alongside team members to craft strategies and tactics to implement key priorities
  • Monitor, research, and track in real-time legislative activity at the state and local government levels that could impact Georgia and the metro Atlanta region
  • Assist with scheduling and executing meetings with elected officials, executive and legislative staff, business and civic community partners, coalitions, and key stakeholders
  • Manage team-specific documents and resources that are critical to the team's operations and performance at the state capitol
  • Conduct research and prepare policy summaries, briefing forms, talking points, letters of support, etc.
  • Interact with federal, state, and local elected officials, department and agency leads, and their staff
  • Assist with coalition building and stakeholder outreach around key legislative priorities
  • Support and assist with the biennial development of the Metro Atlanta Chamber’s policy agenda and legislative priorities
  • Build relationships with key campaign, fundraising, and political staff members
  • Attend outside meetings, conferences, legislative functions, and other job-related events as directed.
  • Manage accounting, budgeting, financial oversight, and reporting for Metro Atlanta Chamber Political Action Committee (MACPAC)
  • Plan and execute administrative tasks for political entities including accounting, budgeting, financial oversight, ethics reporting, scheduling, communications, etc.
  • Oversee operations of various entities, including fundraising, consultant management and oversight, board communications, ethics reporting, compliance, etc.
  • Coordinate and execute the public policy team's state-mandated ethics reporting
  • Assist with planning and execution of chamber events, meetings, initiatives, and other policy events attended by investors, elected officials, staff, and partners.
  • Coordinate and draft internal and external updates on chamber priorities and key legislation
  • Assist with creating department communications, social media, website/blog content, etc.
  • Foster relationships with MAC members, business community partners, lobbyists, government officials, and government staff
  • Plan and execute meetings with elected officials and staff outside of the metro Atlanta region
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
