About The Position

The Cleveland Metropolitan School District (CMSD) is seeking a full-time Outreach Coordinator for Preschool Special Education. The mission of Special Education and Intervention Services in CMSD is to ensure appropriate services and support for all children with special needs and their families in every school, so that all students graduate from high school prepared for college, careers, and fulfilling adult lives. The Outreach Coordinator serves CMSD’s Preschool Assessment Clinic to ensure that young children transitioning from community-based services have access to special education preschool services by their third birthdays. Under the direction of the Director, the Outreach Coordinator is the primary liaison between Bright Beginnings and the Preschool Assessment Clinic staff. He/she communicates with service providers and families, schedules meetings, and participates in conferences to ensure a smooth and timely transition to preschool services. CMSD has maintained 100% compliance with transition timelines in the past years, and we are seeking a team member to support this ongoing work. In addition, the Outreach Coordinator will assist the Director with ensuring that all CMSD special education preschool classrooms earn the highest possible rating on Ohio’s “Step Up to Quality” early childhood improvement system. This is a versatile role with advancement and leadership potential.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education, special education, or related field
  • High expectations and willingness to go above and beyond the call of duty for the children of Cleveland
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs, including Office 365, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Excellent customer service skills, tact, and verbal communication
  • Demonstrated organizational skills, motivation, resourcefulness, and willingness to work flexibly and cooperatively as a member of the team
  • Capable of handling challenging situations, with a high tolerance for ambiguity
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive district, personnel, or school matters
  • Must have access to reliable transportation; travel to schools or other sites within the city of Cleveland will be required

  • Proficiency with Smartsheet is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Support staff and external partners in accomplishing all goals and objectives of the Special Education and Intervention Services team
  • Assist in ensuring compliance with the Operating Standards for Serving Ohio’s Children with Disabilities, specific to the identification of and service to preschool children with disabilities
  • Coordinate schedules and meetings with service providers for Bright Beginnings
  • Serve as District Representative at Bright Beginnings transition meetings at the Preschool Assessment Clinic or offsite as necessary
  • Assist Director and special education staff in collecting transition data and completing reports for annual ODE submission
  • Assist Director in coordinating and planning transition conferences and other special events throughout the year
  • Collect documentation for Step Up to Quality reviews; visit preschool special education classrooms and monitor completion of action plans
  • Support PRE4CLE district-wide initiatives as directed by the Director
  • Complete other duties as assigned by the Director
