About The Position

The Coordinator for Academic Success is responsible for the implementation and management of several key services designed to enhance student success and retention, with specific focus on first year students. The Coordinator will engage students on a regular basis and connect them with resources that can enable them to overcome barriers to success, while maintaining meaningful, discipleship-oriented relationships with students. This position is a twelve-month, full-time with benefits staff position housed within Campus Ministries and Student Engagement (CMSE). The Coordinator is expected to live in accordance with a Christian code of conduct and to take a Christian discipleship orientated approach to job responsibilities. This position is in the Center for Student Success, within Campus Ministries and Student Engagement and works closely with all other employees in the Center for Student Success and must be able to work with a wide range of individuals including students, faculty, and staff.

  • Professes evangelical Christian beliefs.

  • Affirms an understanding of and willingness not to teach contrary to the Baptist Faith and Message 2000
  • Affirms an understanding of and willingness not to advocate contrary to the University's statement on Human Flourishing.
  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree.
  • Must be able to organize, prioritize and problem solve with frequent interruptions.
  • Computer literacy and knowledge of Microsoft Office 365
  • Must be knowledgeable concerning challenges and opportunities related to student success
  • Must be able to handle sensitive situations and information with discretion and demonstrate genuine concern for the academic success of students.
  • Understands and complies with FERPA regulations.
  • Integrates Biblical standards within all assigned responsibilities and approaches student engagement from a Christian, ministerial approach.
  • Able to develop and maintain healthy relationships with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Able to think creatively, improve current processes, and develop new initiatives.
  • Desires to live beyond the job description to better the NGU community through Christian service and discipleship.
  • Demonstrates a desire to seek excellence in all they do.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees the implementation and management of software that supports student success and retention.
  • Oversees the implementation and management of the New Student Orientation course.
  • Monitors the attendance alert system and provides assistance to students and faculty.
  • Assists with the creation of student success strategies for first year students.
  • Assists with the implementation of the First Year Experience program.
  • Oversees tutoring services for the Tigerville campus.
  • Develops a detailed schedule of tutored course offerings and tutor availability.
  • Develops and facilitates tutor training.
  • Provides academic counseling to and regularly engages academically at-risk first-year students.
  • Assists with the creation of strategies to identify and support academically at-risk students.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the AVP for Student Flourishing
