About The Position

Huron Valley Schools is seeking a Coordinator for Categorical Programming who values collaboration and is well versed in best practices within special education. This individual will demonstrate success in building relationships, supporting special education programming and in building futures one student at a time. This role will not include a teaching caseload and is included in our student support services leadership team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in special education
  • Certification as a teacher in the State of Michigan with endorsement in special education
  • Minimum of five (5) years of professional experience teaching students with disabilities in various settings.
  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and confidentially with general and special education teachers, administrators, parents and support staff members.
  • Strong working knowledge of MARSE rules, MDE guidance, and IDEA.
  • Certified CPI instructor, or willingness to become certified to assist in teaching.
  • Demonstrate ability to work with high stress situations and have a strong ability to seek creative solutions.
  • Strong written and communications skills to lend toward solution seeking with staff, parents and advocates on behalf of students and the district.
  • Reliable transportation to travel around the school district on a regular basis.
  • Bachelor's Degree or higher.
  • Ability to speak and write effectively.
  • Ability to apply mathematical concepts to practical situations.
  • Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral format and deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Nice To Haves

  • Preference giving to candidates with five or more years teaching in a categorical EI, CI, or ASD program

Responsibilities

  • Assist with hiring and professional development for elementary categorical teachers and other ancillary staff members.
  • Support ECSE programs and help with placement transitions for those students to elementary schools
  • Support and assist with the management of student Child Find referrals for students who might qualify for categorical programming.
  • Support district-wide initiatives and professional development, including CPI training, IEP training, and categorical curriculum training.
  • Provide a particular focus as boots on the ground support for Elementary Categorical Programs.
  • Support the identification and programming of students needing summer programming and/or extended school year services at the elementary level.
  • Establish regular traveling work locations at each elementary school where categorical programs exist-remain flexible and able to transition where supports might be needed.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director or Associate Director of Student Support Services.
