Coordinator Aquatics Operations - 3 Month Contract

About The Position

This position supports the effective delivery and oversight of aquatic programs and services, working closely with the Aquatics Manager to ensure safe, engaging, and high-quality experiences for all participants. This role is responsible for the daily operations of the aquatic facility, including scheduling, maintaining compliance with safety standards, fostering a positive team environment and ensures that all programming aligns with the values and mission of the YMCA. You must be able to work until 8:00pm Sunday - Thursday. This is a full time contract position (40 hours per week with benefits) till August 28, 2026, with the possibility of extension.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years experience in a leadership role in an Aquatics environment.
  • Intermediate First Aid & CPR-C.
  • National Lifeguard (NL) Pool.
  • Must hold one of YMCA Swim Instructor (YSI) or Lifesaving Instructor (LSI).
  • Able to obtain a Police Information Check with Vulnerable sector check.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office and other . forms of technology effectively.

Nice To Haves

  • University degree in Recreation, Physical Education, Education, or related experience an asset.
  • Obtain Lifesaving Swim Instructor (LSI) and YMCA Champion - Aquatics within 1 year of hire date.
  • Will be trained in Oxygen Administration (O2) with 6 months of hire date.
  • Familiar with Pool Standards and Regulations for operating an aquatics facility.
  • National Coaching Certification (NCCP) are an asset.
  • Leadership Certification in Aquatic Supervisor Training (AST), National Lifeguard Instructor (NLI) or First Aid Instructor (FAI) is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Recruit, hire, train, coach, supervise and manage all staff and volunteers within Aquatics.
  • Build a high functioning team. Ensure team members understand expectations, receive regular feedback/appreciation and work together to support each other.
  • Coach and support staff and volunteers through role modeling, relationship building and The Y Way Service Standards.
  • Ongoing evaluation of all Swim Programs, ensuring members can access lessons and children are progressing. A continuous improvement plan is in place to ensure sessional swimming lessons are of the highest quality.
  • Supports the Aquatic Manager by implementing all aquatics program quality plans and program audits.
  • Continuous support of the Aquatics Manager and with Junior Lifeguard Club, Junior Swim Instructor, Swim Club and ASP program support. Ensuring a plan is in place at your Centre to support these programs achieve a high-quality standard.
  • Is an active on-deck/in-water mentor – Role models and consistently applies safety rules, policies, guidelines, in the aquatics area.
  • Continually coaching and training of aquatic staff to meet scanning, health & safety, opportunities for growth, program quality improvement, The Y Way and YMCA Swim Instructor standards.
  • Monitors and reinforces member/guest behavior in accordance with the YMCA Member and Participant Code of Conduct.
  • Act as a backup when needed.
  • Maintains a safe and supportive environment for all by following YMCA Health Safety Child Protection and Emergency policies and procedures.
  • Enforce pool rules and respond to emergencies if needed.
  • Ensuring aquatics facility and programs are safe by conducting audits and evaluations, reviewing checklists and equipment, performing health & safety checks. Daily walk arounds are being completed and action is taken to correct unsafe or high-risk areas.
