Requirements

  • College diploma (DEC) in television production and/or post-production techniques, or any other relevant diploma.
  • Three years’ experience required to perform duties satisfactorily.
  • Theoretical and practical test.
  • Interview.
  • Candidates may be subject to skills and knowledge testing.
  • A mandatory Criminal record check.
  • Other background checks may be conducted based on the operational requirements of the position.
  • Adherence to the Code of Conduct.
  • Informing of any situation that constitutes or could appear to constitute a conflict of interest.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinating the use and ensuring the continuity of acquisition, feed and communication resources for CBC/Radio-Canada networks and external clients.
  • Distributing the signals of programs or program segments, ensuring quality control.
  • Checking audio, video, captioning and communication signals for programs or program elements across the entire Radio-Canada distribution system, including those from outside distribution companies (e.g., cable operators, satellite signal providers), along with all technical equipment (e.g., VTRs, servers, external links, internet); make corrections if they are not compliant with standards.
  • Drafting reports on irregularities and informing the relevant people.
  • Adjusting, testing, setting up and operating technical equipment (e.g., VTRs, servers, broadcast graphics, digital delay), ensuring everything is clean, secure and in good working order.
  • Contacting telecommunications companies to resolve transmission and reception problems.
  • Applying solutions in case of technical failures; coordinating operations necessary to maintain service quality and continuity, and reporting on your work.
  • Performing tasks involved in operating equipment and making connections as required by schedules or network programming.
  • Adjusting Control Centre activities to provide required signals and feeds, reporting any changes or errors and implementing corrections.
  • Receiving requests for terrestrial circuits or satellite channels, obtaining pricing and placing orders with providers.
  • Coordinating and determining the necessary connections for terrestrial circuits, mobile microwave links and satellite channels, and managing the assignment of distribution channels (RF) and common station elements.
  • Ensuring the proper operation of satellite dishes, receivers/decoders and transmitters, and communicating any changes to satellite channel assignments.
  • Establishing communication links for signal transmission and reception, conducting technical tests and maintaining the necessary contacts.
  • Ensuring that the return signal for each network broadcast by Radio-Canada is recorded for CRTC purposes.
  • Authorizing and initializing Radio-Canada decoders/receivers based on regional and management requests.
  • Recording programs, commercials and promos; checking their accuracy and technical quality; and taking corrective action in case of non-compliance.
  • Routing and feeding news exchange content from servers, VTRs or other sources to regional stations.
  • Importing elements and performing conversions to various file formats for incorporation into edited sequences.
  • Managing disk space by deleting or archiving content associated with your work.
  • Advising technical and production staff on how to resolve issues and/or achieve desired results.
  • Reviewing and applying technical plans and diagrams.
  • Assisting in reviewing or developing operating methods and technical standards.
  • Noting all relevant information in a log to ensure the required follow-up actions and continuity; consulting the log daily.
  • Completing the appropriate forms and documents; sharing information to ensure proper follow-up and to keep others informed.
  • Familiarizing other employees with their duties and the work environment.
  • Carrying out, as needed, the duties of another job classification within an equivalent or lower salary group, as well as other related duties.
