Develop, create, and modify Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) programs for the measurement of complex, multifeatured parts. Analyze production engineering problems or needs and develop software solutions, using the CMM. Work within the parameters of the CMM software for PTM's use with the aim of optimizing efficiency in determining part specification conformance. May analyze and design databases within an application area, working individually or coordinating database development as part of a team. This role involves developing and directing CMM software testing and validation procedures, programming, and documentation as it relates to part dimensional verification. It also includes conferring with CMM software manufacturers, engineers, and programmers to obtain information and program software for the verification of part dimensions. The technician will modify existing software to correct errors, adapt to new hardware, or improve performance, and will store, retrieve, and manipulate data for analysis and inspection. Additionally, they will analyze user needs and software requirements to determine feasibility within time and cost constraints, coordinate software system installation or upgrades, monitor equipment functioning, and train other users on CMM equipment.
