About The Position

The Cooler Supervisor is responsible for the operation of the cooler on the assigned shift, directing the handling, sorting, storage, and release of graded carcasses from the point they leave the grading hall. Reporting to the Grading Manager, this position owns shift-level execution, the daily assignment of the hourly team, and coverage of the area, while department standards, procedures, and priorities are set and approved by the Grading Manager. This position works closely with the Tagger Supervisor, Fabrication, Shipping, Quality Assurance, and Maintenance to meet Company goals and to support a team environment across the facility. Requirements

Beef operations experience required.
Working knowledge of carcass handling, cooler operations, and beef grading standards.
Experience working with a diverse labor force.
Solid problem solving, multitasking, and prioritization skills.
Detail oriented, organized, reliable, and resourceful, with high expectations for self and others.
Proficient with the Microsoft Office suite.
Clear communication skills – verbally and in written form – presenting ideas, concerns, and questions in a well thought out, positive, and professional manner.
Able to work independently and within a team in a fast-paced environment, dealing effectively with change.
Able to stand, sit, walk, climb stairs and ladders, bend, stoop, reach, push, and pull for extended periods.
Able to lift and move up to 50 pounds frequently and up to 75 pounds occasionally.
Able to work in a cold, wet production environment with moderate noise and required PPE.
Availability to work the assigned shift, including evenings, weekends, and overtime as needed.

Nice To Haves

Previous leadership experience preferred.

Responsibilities

Provide leadership and direction to the hourly employees assigned to the cooler on the assigned shift.
Train, coach, develop, appraise, and when necessary discipline assigned employees, with appropriate feedback.
Direct the movement, sorting, and storage of graded carcasses, keeping product accurately identified and organized.
Manage cooler and rail space to support the production schedule and the timely release of product.
Coordinate the handoff of graded carcasses to Fabrication and Shipping so product is staged and released on schedule.
Monitor product condition and handling practices in the area to minimize damage, contamination, and product loss.
Receive graded product from the grading hall, coordinating with the Tagger Supervisor on that handoff.
Carry out department standards, procedures, and daily priorities as directed by the Grading Manager.
Support Quality Assurance, Maintenance, and the other support departments in carrying out the food safety, sanitation, and equipment programs that apply to the area.
Maintain a cost-effective schedule that makes best use of labor and supply resources, and arrange coverage.
Verify labor hours and payroll report accuracy.
Maintain accurate production and business records for the assigned area.
Recommend improvements to cooler operations and workflow to the Grading Manager.
Enforce health and safety policies in the work area, including for employees outside the department.
Refer upward to the Grading Manager regulatory findings, product holds, and matters beyond this authority.
Develop and promote positive working relationships with employees, peers, leaders, and all others.
