About The Position

This position is responsible for the operation of food service equipment and requires a working knowledge of food sanitation and acceptable techniques in handling and service of food to guests. The Cook will bake, roast, broil, and grill all types of food product. This role requires knowledge of basic food preparation techniques, including receiving, storage, preparation, and holding of food items, as well as familiarity with dietary restrictions or modified diets. The Cook will be involved in the tray line assembly process, assist with maintaining kitchen cleanliness, and demonstrate a concern for cleanliness of the work area. This role also requires knowledge of proper lifting techniques, kitchen safety, and planning/prepping for the next day.

Requirements

  • Ability to read, write and communicate in English/Spanish languages.
  • 2 to 4 years of hospital, nursing home, school or institutional cooking experience.
  • Demonstrate commitment and adherence to STHS’s Compliance Program and Code of Conduct.
  • Certified by the City of McAllen or Edinburg (depending on facility employed) or accredited by the State of Texas and ANSI—the American National Standard Institute as a food handler.
  • High School diploma, GED, or Higher Education required; or at least two years previous experience as a Cook considered in lieu of degree.
