About The Position

Spring Arbor Senior Living is seeking a Cook in Kinston, NC. This role supports the Food Service team and aims to provide an exceptional dining experience for residents. The Cook is responsible for ensuring quality standards in all food preparation protocols, adhering to Spring Arbor policies and state licensure and health regulations. This position also involves building rapport with staff and maintaining a positive and social environment for residents.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred; must be 16 or older (18+ in NC to operate power-driven machines like a meat slicer or mixer)
• 3+ years of experience in healthcare, hospitality, or service preferred
• Culinary arts experience preferred
• CPR, First Aid, and ServSafe certifications preferred
• Creative cooking and presentation skills, with a timely approach to food prep
• Understanding of safety and disinfection requirements
• An outgoing, well-groomed, pleasant, and helpful demeanor

Responsibilities

• Prepare delectable food that's appealing in both appearance and presentation
• Handle food carefully during preparation and cooking to ensure sanitation practices are followed
• Document concerns, suggestions, or menu changes for staff and residents
• Assist with serving food during mealtimes and clearing tables
• Clean utensils and dishes properly and promptly
• Help ensure resident safety by keeping areas and floors clean
• Follow infection control, foodborne illness prevention, chemical handling, and fire/safety procedures
