About The Position

Make a difference one meal at a time. La Amistad Behavioral Health Services is seeking a dependable, compassionate part-time (24 hours per week) Cook to join our team. In this role, you'll prepare nourishing meals that support healing, comfort, and recovery for our patients and staff. Food plays a vital role in wellness - especially in behavioral health. Your skills in the kitchen will directly contribute to patient care, morale and daily stability in a therapeutic environment. The cook, prepares and serves regular and special diets to residents and employees under the supervision of the Food Services Supervisor.

Requirements

  • Education: High school graduate or equivalency required. Trade or vocational school training preferred.
  • Experience: Previous cooking experience (One (1)) year healthcare or institutional setting preferred but not required).
  • License/Certification: Food handler permit preferred. Must have valid driver's license.
  • Skills: Must be familiar with inventorying, cooking by recipes, quantity cooking and following written procedures. Food handling and sanitation.
  • Physical Requirements: Good physical health, calm, professional demeanor in a sensitive healthcare environment. Passion for serving others through food. Stands and walks most of the day. Handles and manipulates equipment. Stoops and reaches for equipment. Lift and carries food and kitchen equipment. Tastes and smells food to determine quality. Must be able to periodically lift up to 50 lbs.

Nice To Haves

  • Trade or vocational school training preferred.

  • Food handler permit preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and cook balanced, high-quality meals according to menus and dietary guidelines.
  • Follow therapeutic and special diet requirements (allergies, low-sodium, etc.)
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized kitchen environment.
  • Work closely with dietary and clinical staff to meet patient needs.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety and sanitation standards.
  • Cleans and maintains dining area, ensuring dishes are properly sanitized, floors are swept and mopped daily following the department cleaning schedule.
