About The Position

Reporting to the Nutrition Manager, the Cook is responsible for preparing and delivering high-quality meals for residents, guests, and employees while ensuring compliance with food safety standards and therapeutic diet requirements. Extendicare is a leading provider of care and services for seniors across Canada, operating under the Extendicare, ParaMed, Extendicare Assist, and SGP Purchasing Network brands. Requirements

  • Food Handler’s Certificate (required)
  • Experience in large quantity food preparation, preferably in healthcare or retirement settings
  • Knowledge of therapeutic/specialty diets and food regulations
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift/move heavy or hot items
  • Current Vulnerable Sector Check (or willingness to obtain)

Nice To Haves

  • Red Seal Certification (preferred)
  • Second language considered an asset

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and serve meals in accordance with planned menus, production sheets, and standardized recipes
  • Ensure meals are presented attractively and served on schedule
  • Follow proper food handling, sanitation, and safety procedures
  • Complete and document daily temperature checks for refrigerators, freezers, and storage areas
  • Prepare foods for therapeutic and specialty diets as required
  • Make and document menu substitutions as necessary
  • Maintain adherence to production schedules and budget guidelines
  • Comply with all regulatory requirements and departmental policies
  • Participate in special events, theme meals, and menu planning activities
  • Attend meetings, training, and in-service education sessions
  • Support Resident Rights and contribute to a respectful environment
  • Participate in Quality Improvement and health & safety programs
  • Perform other duties as assigned
