About The Position

The Salvation Army Midland Division Corps Camp Mihaska in Bourbon, Missouri, is seeking a Cook to manage all aspects of the camp kitchen and dining area. This includes ensuring efficient operations, preparing and serving meals, and maintaining cleanliness of the kitchen and dining spaces. This is a full-time position with 40 hours per week and a starting pay of $15.50 per hour.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • One year cooking experience.
  • Able to comply with recipes, safety handling instructions and job description.
  • Must have or obtain within the orientation period a valid food handling certificate.
  • Able to prepare meals in large quantities.
  • Valid driver’s license and pass TSA MVR check is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and serve food.
  • Comply with state health regulations in the operation of the kitchen, including maintenance of proper sanitation by wearing plastic gloves, hair nets, and aprons.
  • Sanitize all cooking utensils.
  • Ensure dining room is set up and tables and floors are clean before and after meals.
  • Keep kitchen refrigerators, walk-in refrigerator, freezer, and all drawers and cabinets clean and organized at all times.
  • Keep all foods in the refrigerators labeled with date and contents.
  • Keep and maintain a daily temperature log of food being served, as well as all refrigerators and freezers.
  • Operate necessary kitchen equipment for food preparation and clean-up.
  • Lift and carry cooking materials and supplies.
  • Attend necessary state certification classes and staff meetings.
  • Maintain client confidentiality and treat clients and staff with respect.
  • Report any damage or theft of kitchen items to supervisor.
  • Maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that fosters good relationships with clients, co-workers and supervisors. This includes, but is not limited to, such actions as: resolution of conflicts in a professional manner; courteous treatment of staff, visitors and clients; respect of others’ property and person; and professional and appropriate communication to and about clients, co-workers and supervisors.
