About The Position

The Cook is responsible for preparing meals and snacks in accordance with menus planned by the Director of Support Services and approved by a Dietician. The cook is responsible for maintaining sanitary conditions in the kitchen, coolers, freezers, serving area and dining hall at all times. He/she supervises, teaches and role models for youth.

Requirements

  • One year of food service experience.
  • Must have prior training and a working knowledge of quantity food preparation.
  • Must have a valid drivers license
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate with all staff using established committees, performance improvement teams, individual meetings, in-service training and other identified means.
  • Ability to present him/her self in a neat and professional manner, practicing acceptable personal hygiene and be reliable/timely.
  • Ability to demonstrate the possession of a valid driver’s license prior to employment and ability to maintain the license and operate a motor vehicle thereafter.
  • Ability to effectively relate to youth, parents/legal guardians, professional and support staff.
  • Effective oral and written communication.
  • Ability to effectively organize priorities and manage dining hall activities.
  • Have an understanding and sensitivity to serving a culturally diverse and/or special needs population.
  • Ability to effectively read and follow recipes.
  • Ability to keep an electronic calendar (Outlook)
  • Ability to pass TCI certification both at employee orientation and per the schedule outlined by HR thereafter
  • Ability to pass CPR/First aid certification both at employee orientation and per the schedule outlined by HR thereafter.
  • Ability to pass CPS/UII background check both prior to employment and per the schedule outlined by HR thereafter.
  • Ability to pass a work-readiness physical performed by a certified medical professional both prior to employment and per the schedule outlined by HR thereafter.
  • Ability to pass a Federal and State Fingerprinting Background Check both prior to employment and per the schedule outlined by HR thereafter.
  • Ability to pass a drug screen via urinalysis both prior to employment and randomly thereafter.

Nice To Haves

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Two years food service experience
  • ServSafe certified
  • Catering experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Prepare meals according to the menu and Dietary Supervisor.
  • Clean and sanitize work areas and equipment.
  • Prepare meals for special functions and packed meals.
  • Check items that are delivered, unpack and store them in the appropriate area.
  • Communicate with the Dietary Supervisor weekly for food and other supplies.
  • Record cooler, freezer, and food temperatures daily on the forms provided.
