About The Position

Sodexo is seeking a Cook for their campus location at STFX University. This role involves preparing and cooking hot menu items, operating kitchen equipment, ensuring food safety standards, and maintaining high quality and presentation. The Cook will also assist with menu planning, inventory, and maintaining a clean workstation. Additionally, the role supports special events and works collaboratively with the team to ensure timely meal service. University-specific responsibilities include preparing meals for students, staff, and guests in a high-volume dining environment, accommodating dietary restrictions, and supporting residence dining. Requirements

  • Red Seal or equivalent experience
  • Must have basic HACCP Food Safety training.
  • Applicant MUST BE Customer Service Oriented. This is a Frontline Customer Service Position which will entail working alongside our Customers.
  • Applicant must be willing to utilize meat slicers/ food processors
  • Must be capable of working in a fast-paced environment, hot cooking environment.
  • Ability to follow Chef’s instruction on setup and displays of food & beverage
  • Applicant must be in good standing with a satisfactory attendance record

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and cook hot menu items according to recipes, production sheets, and food safety standards.
  • Operate kitchen equipment such as ovens, grills, fryers, steamers, and kettles safely and efficiently.
  • Ensure food is prepared, held, and served at proper temperatures.
  • Maintain high standards of food quality, presentation, and portion control.
  • Assist with menu preparation and daily production planning.
  • Monitor inventory levels and communicate product shortages to supervisors.
  • Receive, rotate, and properly store food products following FIFO procedures.
  • Follow all food safety, sanitation, and workplace health and safety regulations.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workstation throughout the shift.
  • Complete cleaning and sanitizing duties for equipment and kitchen areas.
  • Support special events, catering functions, and residence dining operations as required.
  • Work collaboratively with cooks, supervisors, and service staff to ensure timely meal service.
  • Assist with training and mentoring new employees when required.
  • Report equipment issues, food quality concerns, and safety hazards promptly.
  • Adhere to university, departmental, and company policies and procedures.
  • Prepare meals for students, staff, and guests in a high-volume dining environment.
  • Accommodate dietary restrictions, allergens, and special nutrition requirements.
  • Support residence dining meal periods, theme meals, and campus events.
  • Assist with maintaining accurate production records and temperature logs.
  • Contribute to a positive dining experience through professional and courteous service.
