About The Position

This role is responsible for determining food items and preparing them for service. The cook will prepare appetizing and appealing food from scratch, execute culinary knife skills, and follow standardized recipes. They will cook and prepare food in quantities according to the menu, par level, and number of persons to be served, and observe and test foods to determine if they have been cooked sufficiently. The cook will also be responsible for dishes, ordering supplies, maintaining proper food temperature log sheets, and maintaining proper cooking/quick chill log sheets. They will portion and dish food according to diet tickets, weigh items when necessary, and perform dishwashing as needed. The position requires knowledge of various cooking procedures and methods (grilling, baking, boiling, etc.) and maintaining a clean and sanitized work area, tables, counters, cabinets, ovens, and other kitchen equipment utilizing proper sanitation techniques. Adherence to department safety and sanitation regulations, and the use of protective barriers (gloves, apron, proper hair covering) are essential. Excellent customer service skills and the ability to work well on a team and independently are also required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • One year of experience as a cook or two years of experience in food service department preferred
  • Graduate of vocational school, or culinary program preferred
  • State Food Safety Sanitation Certification per department requirements required within 90 days
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Works well on a team and on their own
