Position Summary Prepare high-quality meals for regular and modified diets according to standardized recipes and resident dining requests. This role supports resident well-being by delivering nutritious, appealing meals while maintaining the highest standards of food safety, sanitation, hospitality, and teamwork. Cooks at Resthaven serve as important members of the care experience by creating meals that promote comfort, dignity, and quality of life for residents while supporting a welcoming dining environment.

Requirements

  • Ability to safely operate commercial kitchen equipment and dishwashers.
  • Knowledge of food preparation techniques, including modified and therapeutic diets.
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills with residents, families, visitors, and team members.
  • Ability to recognize and respond appropriately to varying resident needs, abilities, and cultural backgrounds.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism, hospitality, and composure under pressure.
  • Commitment to resident satisfaction, teamwork, and quality service.
  • High school diploma or successful completion of a GED required.
  • Attendance and participation in required in-service training and departmental meetings required.

Nice To Haves

  • One to two years of food preparation experience in a commercial, healthcare, or institutional setting preferred.
  • Experience working with older adults or senior living populations preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare high-quality meals according to standardized recipes and approved production procedures.
  • Prepare meals for both regular and modified diets in appropriate quantities based on resident dining needs.
  • Follow production sheets accurately while weighing, measuring, and portioning food appropriately.
  • Arrange and plate food in an attractive, efficient, and resident-centered manner.
  • Set up steam tables and serving stations before meals and clean thoroughly afterward.
  • Maintain clean and sanitary kitchen, dining, dishwashing, and food preparation areas according to organizational and health department standards.
  • Sanitize work surfaces, wash dishes, mop floors, and remove trash according to established procedures.
  • Take and document food temperatures prior to meal service to ensure food safety compliance.
  • Open and close kitchen areas including properly storing food, labeling leftovers, dating items, and securing refrigerators, freezers, and storage rooms.
  • Follow all safety, sanitation, infection prevention, and food handling guidelines.
  • Work effectively in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail and food quality.
  • Provide leadership support and assist supervisors with assigned responsibilities.
  • Serve as a positive role model while assisting in training prep cooks and dietary aides.
  • Maintain professional, respectful, and courteous interactions with residents, families, visitors, and coworkers.
  • Support teamwork and collaboration within Culinary Services and across departments.
  • Understand and follow Resthaven policies, procedures, and mission-centered expectations.
  • Perform additional position-related responsibilities as assigned.
