About The Position

The cook is responsible for preparing nutritious and appealing meals for up to 75 individuals. Maintain high standards of kitchen cleanliness. Morrison Child and Family Services is a Joint Commission and Sanctuary accredited non-profit organization that provides a comprehensive array of services to children, adolescents, and their families. Requirements

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with a broad variety of people, including staff, supervisors and management in English.
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriate professional boundaries.
  • Nutritional knowledge is required.
  • Ability to work with emotionally and behaviorally disturbed adolescents and flexibility is required.
  • Openness to feedback and supervision.
  • Ability to regularly attend scheduled shifts, be punctual for scheduled shifts and meetings, and be in a condition suitable for assuming responsibilities of position.
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • 1 year experience cooking in an industrial kitchen, required.
  • Bilingual abilities, including the ability to speak, read, write, and translate documents in Spanish. Must clear a language proficiency test.
  • Pass a criminal history background check though Morrison and a suitability determination investigation through the U.S. Office of Personnel Management.
  • Blood borne Pathogens training is required on first day of employment.
  • Food handler’s card is required.
  • Must pass criminal history check.
  • Have a driver’s license
  • Submit vaccination requirements.
  • Hold a valid drivers’ license. Must be licensed in Oregon or Washington within 30 days of hire
  • Personal transportation allowing for travel within the greater Portland metropolitan area in a timely manner.

Responsibilities

  • Organize, prepare, and serve complete meals as specified by the menu. Specific meals for diets and special occasions to be prepared as required.
  • Maintains sanitation procedures and requirements in compliance with Oregon Health Codes and Department of Education regulations.
  • Maintains clean food preparation area and serving environment in compliance with health department and other program requirements.
  • Maintains records of daily attendance and meal counts, and tracks nutritional requirements to meet state and federal standards.
  • Maintains cooperative and supportive working relationships with food service and program staff.
  • Responsible for appropriate use of maintenance of food service equipment and reporting equipment and maintenance problems.
  • Attends staff meetings and trainings provided by the program.
  • Maintain a supportive, caring and disciplined environment for our clients.
  • Personal style that models and encourages direct, professional customer-focused communication among all members of the program.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to developing a thorough knowledge and application of the Sanctuary model and other organizational policies & practices.
  • Participate in staff development, in-services, and training related to workplace effectiveness; model professional behaviors and implement improvements to business practices with awareness of their impact in a trauma-informed behavioral healthcare organization.
