In the kitchen, the Cook will prepare ingredients for daily menu items, assist in the preparation of homestyle meals, maintain a clean and sanitary work area, assist with inventory checks, support the kitchen team in basic cooking tasks, and follow all food safety and sanitation standards. The role also requires adherence to workplace safety protocols.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • At least 1 year of experience in a kitchen or food preparation role preferred, ideally in a high-volume setting.
  • Familiarity with basic cooking techniques and kitchen equipment is a plus.
  • Stand and work in a kitchen for 8–10 hours.
  • Lift up to 50 lbs (e.g., food supplies).
  • Handle heat and kitchen tools comfortably.

Nice To Haves

  • Culinary training is a bonus but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare ingredients for daily menu items, including chopping vegetables, portioning meats, and assembling salads or sides, following standardized recipes and portion control guidelines.
  • Assist in the preparation of homestyle meals tailored to the preferences and schedules of manufacturing employees.
  • Ensure all food items are prepped in a timely manner to support efficient service during peak dining hours.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary work area, adhering to Pepi Foods’ Gold Standard kitchen expectations (clean, labeled, and organized).
  • Assist with inventory checks and communicate supply needs to the Dining Center Manager to ensure adequate stock levels.
  • Support the kitchen team in basic cooking tasks, such as grilling, frying, or baking, as directed during busy shifts.
  • Follow all food safety and sanitation standards, including HACCP guidelines, to ensure a safe dining environment.
  • Adhere to workplace safety protocols, including proper use of kitchen equipment (e.g., knives, slicers, ovens) and personal protective equipment.
