Requirements

A high school diploma or equivalent
Previous experience as a cook, preferably in a childcare or educational setting
A genuine love for children and desire to make a positive impact every day
Knowledge of nutrition and dietary requirements for children
Ability to plan and prepare meals for large groups
Strong organizational and time management skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Flexibility to work hours based on the needs of the school and program
Ability to meet Virginia licensing standards and pass a background check

Nice To Haves

Certification in food safety and handling

Responsibilities

Develop weekly menus that are nutritious and balanced
Keep track of food supplies and place orders as needed, managing kitchen budget effectively
Maintain a clean and organized kitchen, adhering to all health and safety regulations
Maintain accurate records of food purchases, meal counts, and any dietary restrictions or allergies.
Prepare and cook meals and snack according to the planned menu
Ensure food is cooked safely and in accordance with sanitation protocols
Ensure menus meet dietary requirements
Ensure proper storage, handling of food, portion control and dietary needs
Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
Interact with children in a positive and friendly manner.
