Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Knowledge of dietary terminology and processes or the ability to learn and retain quickly
  • Strong communication skills and a service-focused attitude
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced setting
  • Ability to work independently with normal supervision and use good judgment
  • Professionalism and commitment to confidentiality
  • Must be able to communicate effectively (talk/hear) and perform tasks requiring close attention to detail (see)

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and cook food according to standardized recipes and diet orders, with attention to quality and presentation
  • Support efficient kitchen operations by keeping dietary areas clean, organized, and well stocked throughout the shift
  • Complete required temperature logs and follow safe food handling, labeling/dating, and storage practices (including raw meat/poultry storage)
  • Follow daily/weekly/monthly cleaning schedules for food service equipment
  • Assemble patient trays, load carts, and assist with meal delivery service as needed
  • Verify tray accuracy against menu selections and clarify unclear or missing diet orders with nursing
  • Provide prompt, courteous customer service to patients, residents, visitors, and staff
  • Coordinate with the Dietary Manager, nursing, and other departments to keep service running smoothly
  • Assist with training and ongoing support for Dietary team members
  • Follow infection control practices, safety precautions, and accreditation/compliance standards
