About The Position

The Police Department Cook is primarily concerned with preparing and cooking food, planning menus, estimating consumption of food and dispensing food and beverages. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must pass background check, physical and pre-employment drug screen.
  • Have a Certificate in food preparation or be able to attend training in food preparation.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one on one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to do simple arithmetic with reference to increasing or decreasing ingredients for recipes and calculate specific food servings.

Responsibilities

  • Greeting visitors and clients in a friendly and professional manner
  • Must be able to work a shift which consists of twenty (20) hours per week.
  • Must be able to work with Carl T. Curtis Health Center nutritionist to plan balanced and nutritious meals.
  • Prepares, seasons, and cooks soups, meats, vegetables, desserts, and other food stuffs for consumption.
  • Reads menus to estimate food requirements, orders food from suppliers, and sends copies of the menus to finance to show what foods are being used.
  • Works safely with kitchen equipment.
  • Knowledge of food service equipment and ability to operate and clean electric food processors, food slicers, shredder, grinders and mixers.
  • Cleans work areas, equipment and utensils, and segregates and removes garbage.
  • Takes inventory of stores, reports shortages and requisitions replacement of utensils, equipment and food stuffs.
  • Maintains a daily log of inmates fed on a daily basis.
  • Arranges for special meals for inmates with medical problems (i.e. diabetics).
