About The Position

The Cook prepares food in accordance with current standards, guidelines, and regulations with United Church of Christ Homes' established policies and procedures to assure that quality dining service is provided. This role also involves duties of a Prep Aide and leadership responsibilities for employees in a food service setting.

Requirements

  • Must be able to cook a variety of foods in large quantities.
  • Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public.
  • Must possess leadership and supervisory ability and the willingness to work harmoniously with other personnel.
  • Must be able to summarize and relate information concerning a resident's condition.
  • Must possess the ability/willingness to learn basic computer skills.
  • Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
  • Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
  • Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately.
  • Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of this facility which include a medical and physical examination.
  • Must be able to relate to and work with persons who exhibit emotional instability, confusion, or at times, hostility.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a minimum height of 3 feet and be able to carry such weight a minimum distance of 25 feet.
  • Using a mechanical device, must regularly be able to push, pull, or move weight in excess of 100 pounds a distance of 300 feet.
  • May be necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations.

Nice To Haves

  • One year dietary experience in a hospital, skilled nursing care facility, or other related medical facility preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares food in accordance with current standards, guidelines, and regulations.
  • Ensures menus are maintained and filed; reviews menus prior to food preparation.
  • Prepares palatable and aesthetically appetizing meals.
  • Prepares and serves substitute foods to residents as needed.
  • Assists in establishing a food service production line to ensure meals are prepared on time.
  • Ensures correct diet is served to appropriate residents and processes diet changes and new diets.
  • Assists in inventorying and storing incoming food and supplies.
  • Assists in food preparation for special meals and parties.
  • Assists and directs daily scheduled cleaning duties.
  • Maintains food storage areas in a clean and properly arranged manner.
  • Disposes of food and waste in accordance with policies.
  • Maintains a safe work environment for residents and staff.
  • Directs day-to-day functions of employees for whom responsibility is held.
  • Provides leadership and guidance to employees for whom responsibility is held.
  • Cleans, peels, cuts, chops, and performs other duties to prepare food.
  • Assists in the preparation of soups, salads, desserts, etc.
