About The Position

Are you ready to join a team where your cooking skills help brighten someone’s day? At our medical center, being a Cook means more than just preparing meals. This role involves following detailed recipes to prepare tasty, nutritious meals for patients, including ‘special diets’ tailored with help from our Registered Dietitian. You will also be responsible for keeping the kitchen clean and safe, following strict IDPH food safety rules to protect everyone. This is a full-time position with a shift from 12 PM to 8 PM, including an every-other weekend rotation. Bourbonnais Terrace is a healthcare center serving mental health patients, where residents are adults working to rebuild their psychological health and independence. Requirements

  • Current CFPM (Certified Food Protection Manager) certificate PLUS a Food Handlers Certificate (often obtained thru ServSafe, but other accredited program certificates are accepted)
  • Basic knowledge of computer-based documentation systems
  • Understanding of good food preparation, serving techniques, and food safety and sanitation rules
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English
  • Ability to regularly stand for lengthy periods of time, push, pull, move and/or lift a minimum of 25 pounds, and pass a pre-employment physical and background check

Nice To Haves

  • At least 1 year of experience as a Cook/Chef in a healthcare facility or commercial/central kitchen (strongly preferred)
  • High school diploma or GED (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Follow detailed recipes to prepare tasty, nutritious meals for patients, including ‘special diets’ tailored with help from our Registered Dietitian.
  • Keep the kitchen clean and safe, following strict IDPH food safety rules to protect everyone.
  • Pitch in wherever needed — from stocking the freezer to chatting with patients about their meals or helping to prepare next week’s menu.
  • Work as part of a fast-moving team that wears many hats every day.
