Nexus Family Recovery Center is a Dallas-based nonprofit dedicated to helping women and families heal from substance use disorder. Summary Reporting to the Kitchen Supervisor, the Cook – Part Time, As Needed (PRN) manages all responsibilities associated with providing meals to meals for clients, children, and staff on the Nexus campus, as well as for occasional on campus events and meetings. Responsible for general upkeep and cleanliness of kitchen and dining area, and maintaining inventory and food storage room.

Requirements

  • Basic understanding of cooking in an institution setting.
  • Fundamental cooking skills.
  • Working and practical knowledge of kitchen equipment and tools.
  • Proficient in reading recipes and cooking directions.
  • Able to lift boxes weighing at least 25 pounds.
  • Good verbal communication skills, able to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to place food orders for future meals.
  • Strong time management skills.
  • Understanding of HIPAA compliance and employee and client confidentiality.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
  • Must meet all certification and training requirements of licensing/accrediting agencies.
  • Respects confidentiality always.
  • Follows HIPAA and CFR 42 guidelines for disclosing information.
  • Adheres to the agency’s compliance plan, code of conduct, and the Nexus policies & procedures.
  • Treats all clients, visitors, and co-workers with dignity and respect.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to conduct instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to solve practical problems involving a variety of concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to perform assigned duties and responsibilities with neatness, accuracy, and a degree of excellence, promptly.

  • As a condition of continued employment, you are responsible for obtaining and maintaining all training required to stay in compliance with state licensure rules and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and cook meals as defined by weekly menus, under the direction of the Kitchen Supervisor.
  • Perform or supervise the cleaning of all kitchen equipment and restocking of dry storage area when shipments are received.
  • Maintain inventory and use of cooking supply records as required by licensing and accreditation standards.
  • Perform other cooking or kitchen duties as required by the Kitchen Supervisor.
  • Other duties within the organization as assigned.
