About The Position

Wellstar is seeking a Cook to prepare nutritious and delicious food for WellStar Patient Meal Service, Retail Service and/or other satellite areas utilizing recipes and conventional and/or cook/chill production methods, equipment or tools. This role requires a passion for the culinary arts and menu items prepared in a healthcare setting, with a strong adherence to sanitation and food handling codes. The Cook must be able to comply with a higher standard of safety and sanitation due to preparing food for a high-risk population. The ability to manage time and plan work to produce a variety of recipes simultaneously, possibly under high-volume demands, is essential. The role also involves assessing food quality, taste, color, and odor.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma General-Preferred
  • SRVSF-FH - ServSafe Food Handler within 60 Days
  • Relevant experience
  • Ability to communicate and understand verbal and written English language and Math.
  • Ability to complete mandatory computer-based learning and pass exam.
  • Ability to understand and follow safety regulations in a food service healthcare environment.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures the Safety of Customers and Team Members (according to Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) and County Health Department Guidelines) by washing hands frequently, wearing gloves, following infection prevention practices, maintaining clean work areas, monitoring and recording temperatures, and storing food properly.
  • Operates equipment according to safety guidelines and escalates any unsafe conditions.
  • Ensures Positive Service Outcomes by following the department work schedule, setting up and breaking down workstations, following instructions accurately, completing checklists, and operating equipment according to guidelines.
  • Remains flexible to support other team members across the department.
  • Engages in Efforts to Create a World Class Work Environment by following uniform specifications, collaborating with team members and Leadership, and communicating respectfully.
  • Respects the cultural traditions of team members and customers.
  • Ensures the High Quality of Menu Items Prepared by Utilizing Culinary Techniques, including proper peeling and cutting of fresh products, butchering meats, dicing, julienning or mincing vegetables, utilizing proper cooking techniques, identifying and handling food items correctly, accurately reading and following recipes, and performing measurement/mathematical conversions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Complies with all Wellstar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.
