About The Position

The Cook is responsible for managing and operating the kitchen in the absence of the Dietary Supervisor. This role reports to the Dietary Supervisor. The Cook must maintain a safe, orderly, clean, and sanitary kitchen and cooking area. They must be able to prepare tasteful meals, cook a variety of foods in large quantities, follow prepared menus and portion control guides, and prepare special diets accurately. The Cook is also responsible for recording food temperatures, preparing pureed foods, and cooperating with personnel in all departments. Maintaining quaternary solution in sanitizer buckets, assisting with serving meals, and cleaning the cooking area and serving carts are also key duties. The Cook must report resident care concerns to the Administrator and/or Director of Nurses, participate in the training of dietary staff, and ensure cleaning schedules are followed. The food presentation should be appealing to residents. This position has supervisory responsibilities in the absence of the Dietary Supervisor.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least one year of experience as a cook in a hospital or long-term care facility.
  • Ability to read technical procedures.
  • Ability to read and follow recipes.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers and employees.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Must obtain and maintain ServSafe Certificate.
  • Must remain in good standing with the Department of Public Health.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge and experience with PCC preferred.
